Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)

Bylaws


This organization shall be known as the Parent/Teacher Organization or PTO.

I. MEMBERSHIP

Membership will be comprised of parents of students at Villa Grove School and other adults with an expressed interest in promoting Villa Grove School.  Members will approve or disapprove of PTO activities by at large election with one vote per adult present at any given meeting.  Members must be present to vote.

II.   PURPOSE

To aid the communication and teachers in meeting the education needs of the students at Villa Grove School.

III. OFFICERS

The officers of this organization shall consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.  Officers will be elected from the membership at large on an annual basis.  Vacancies will be nominated and elected from the membership at large.  There shall be no limit to the number of terms an officer may serve.  Officers are required to attend all meetings and can be dismissed at the discretion of the other Officers in the event this is not followed.

The duties of the officers include but are not limited:

  President:  Preside over PTO meetings and over Executive meetings.

  Vice President:  To sub for president when necessary.

  Secretary:  Record and maintain minutes of PTO meetings.

  Treasurer:  Keep and maintain PTO financial records.

IV.   RULES OF CONDUCT

Standard rules of conduct and common courtesy will be followed.

V. TRUSTEES

Trustees shall consist of the Elementary School President and two teachers.  They will be used in an advisory capacity only.  There is no limit on the number of terms they may serve.

VI.   MEETINGS

Meetings will be at a minimum of four per year.  Members will be contacted by telephone or notice.  Changes in scheduled meetings or any special meetings will require a minimum of one week notice.  There will be an annual meeting in April to elect new officers.  A majority of members is required to carry any proposals.  No person shall represent anyone else in a vote.

VII. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The Executive Committee shall consist of PTO’s President, Vice Present, Secretary and Treasurer.

VIII.   AMENDMENTS

The bylaws of this organization may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the membership present at the first regular meeting subsequent to the meeting at which the amendment was proposed or at a special meeting called at least 30 days after the introduction of the proposed amendment(s).

IX.   COMMITTEES

The activities of this organization shall be delegated by committees.  Committees will be formed on an as needed basis.

X. DISSOLUTION

In the event that PTO dissolves, all assets will be come the property and responsibility of Villa Grove School.
