AIMSweb Plus

What is AIMSWeb?

AIMSWeb is a web-based solution for universal screening, progress monitoring, and data management for Grades K-12. AIMSWeb provides guidance to administrators and teachers based on accurate, continuous, and direct student assessment.

At the foundation of AIMSWeb is general outcome measurement, a form of curriculum-based measurement (CBM), used for universal screening and progress monitoring. This form of brief assessment measures overall performance of key foundational skills at each grade level and draws upon over thirty years of scientific research that demonstrates both its versatility to provide accurate prediction of reading and math achievement as well as its sensitivity to growth.

The Power of CBM

Educators and researchers across the country will tell you CBM is their assessment of choice for progress monitoring and Response to Intervention because this method of general outcome measurement is:

  • Brief: Can be administered frequently without disrupting instruction
  • Predictive: Provides accurate predictions of reading and math achievement
  • Sensitive to improvement: An increase in ability will be reflected in rising scores on the measure
  • Easy to administer and score: Can be used accurately by a wide range of education personnel
  • A valid measure of skills that are central to the domain being measured (reading, math, language arts)
  • Standardized and reliable: Producing consistent results across time or testing conditions
  • Available in multiple equivalent forms to reduce practice effects on retesting

Descriptions of Individual CBMs

Early Numeracy (K-1)

Measure Grade What students do
Number Naming Fluency (NNF) K Verbally name numbers up to 20 for 1 minute.
Quantity Total Fluency (QTF) K Boxes containing blue dots are presented.  Students state the total number of dots within each box for each pair of boxes for 1 minute.
Quantity Difference Fluency (QDF) K Pairs of boxes containing dots (one with blue dots, one with red dots) are presented. Students state how many more blue dots are needed to match the number of red dots for 1 minute.
Concepts & Applications (CA) K, 1 Pairs of boxes containing dots (one with blue dots, one with red dots) are presented. Students state how many more blue dots are needed to match the number of red dots for 1 minute.
Number Comparison Fluency-Pairs (NCF-P) 1 Pairs of numbers are presented. Students identify which of two numbers is larger for each pair for 1 minute.
Math Facts Fluency-1 Digit (MFF-1D) 1 Mentally solve simple addition and subtraction problems involving numbers 0 through 10 and state the correct answers for 1 minute.
Math Facts Fluency-Tens (MFF-T) 1 Mentally add or subtract 10 to/from given numbers and state the correct answers for 1 minute.

Early Literacy (K-1)

Measure Grade What students do
Print  Concepts (PC) K Show understanding of purpose, use, and contents (letters, pictures) of a book.
Letter Naming Fluency (LNF) K Say the names of visually presented letters for 1 minute.
Initials Sounds (IS) K Look at four pictures and either point to the one that begins with a given letter sound or make the sound that begins the word.
Auditory Vocabulary (AV) K, 1 Point to the one of four pictures that matches an orally presented word.
Letter Word Sounds Fluency (LWSF) K, 1 Say the sounds of visually presented letters, syllables, and words for 1 minute.
Phoneme Segmentation (PS) K, 1 Say the phonemes in orally presented words.
Word Reading Fluency K, 1 Read a word list aloud for 1 minute.
Oral Reading Fluency 1 Read two stories aloud, each for 1 minute. (For Progress monitoring, students reading one story for one minute)

Math (Grades 2-8)

Measure Grade What students do
Number Comparison Fluency-Triads (NCF-T) 2-8 Compare three numbers within and across number systems to determine the relative distance between each number for 3 minutes.
Mental Computation Fluency (MCF) 2-8 Solve multiple-choice math computation problems for 4 minutes.
Concepts & Applications (CA) 2-8 Solve multiple-choice math word problems.

Reading (Grades 2-8)

Measure Grade What students do
Vocabulary (VOC) 2-8 Identify the meanings of target words by selecting from multiple-choice options.
Reading Comprehension (RC) 2-8 Read six passages of text and answer multiple-choice questions about each passage.
Silent Reading Fluency (SRF) 4-8 Read three stories divided into brief sections and answer multiple-choice questions about each story.
Oral Reading Fluency (ORF) 2-8 Read two stories aloud, each for 1 minute. (For Progress monitoring, students reading one story for one minute)
